One of the highlights of our day is when friendly dogs bring their owners in (on leash, of course!).  But what about those of you whose pups prefer their personal space?

No problem! Beginning May 10th, we will be accepting 20 minute appointments on Fridays for dogs who struggle socially. It's a chance for your dog to adapt to a new situation and help you shop in a lower stress environment before the store is open to the public.

There are many reasons dogs don’t do well in a social setting. Maybe they didn’t have opportunities to socialize when they were young. Sometimes they get over stimulated and act out, similar to a toddler having a tantrum. Maybe something scared or hurt them and now they panic when faced with a bunch of strangers or another dog. As many reasons as there can be for a dog needing more personal space, there are just as many (if not more) ways they can display their discomfort. One of the most common may look and sound like aggression.

Working with an experienced trainer can help you understand their behavior and ease some of their fear responses. There is a wealth of good trainers available so that you can find a local one that best fits you and your dog. For example, For Pet’s Sake here in Mukwonago has classes specifically geared toward shy or reactive dogs. Whoever you are considering, make time to meet with them to discuss your specific needs.

But having an introverted, fearful, shy, or reactive pup shouldn’t prevent them from getting out. That’s why we now have these Less Stress Shopping times, to create a safe environment for your pup to enjoy shopping and allow them to relax, explore, and point out their new favorites!

We have limited appointments available, so don’t wait til the last minute to reserve yours. Please call 262-363-3338 by Wednesday at 7pm to reserve your Friday morning appointment. One of our staff will be your 'personal shopper' if you wish and no store dogs will be present.
