On this day filled with hearts and flowers, have you considered treating your dog or cat with some heart-healthy…heart? Heart is filled with protein and amino acids such as taurine, as well as Vit B-12, zinc, iron, magnesium, and CoQ10.

A fresh raw diet generally includes the correct proportions of organ meat (5-10%), so this may be your easiest way to include heart in your pet’s diet. We have quite a few single ingredient freeze-dried options for you as well. Choose the protein that works the best for your cat or dog, or rotate through all of them. We currently have in stock: beef, chicken, duck, lamb, pork, and turkey, many are available either packaged or in bulk. (Cat parents - you can shop the bulk freeze dried baskets as well, all the ingredients are on the bins, and the freeze-dried heart is just that with no other ingredients!)

You can offer freeze-dried heart as a high value treat. You can also bury a few pieces in your pet’s meal (or sprinkle a few on top) to “boost their bowl”. No matter how it’s presented, it’s a favorite of many of our staff’s pets. Matter of fact, I have to brace my treat cupboard shut or two of my cats will climb up to open the cupboard and drag the bag of treats out. They haven’t figured out how to keep it off the floor, where the dogs wait patiently. Once the treats are on the floor, they are gone in seconds.

Have a heart…and treat your pet with some today!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
